Official Student Onboarding
Welcome to the Yorùbá Language Program. Our goal is to reconnect adult diaspora learners and temple communities with ancestral wisdom, practical fluency, and cultural integrity. To build a sustainable, high-quality learning environment, we operate under a structured set of policies that align with our quality assurance benchmarks.
Please read the standard operating procedures below carefully. Understanding these policies upfront is essential for integrating into the class flow and successfully utilizing our educational tools.
📚 1. Curriculum Architecture: Foundation vs. Lateral Tracks
Our program is organized into a progressive, 12-unit curriculum divided into two distinct logical phases. This ensures that learners build strong structural habits before moving into specialized topics:
- Foundation Classes (Units 1–3): These core units cover the absolute basics—the Yorùbá alphabet, the tone system, standard pronunciation patterns, greetings, and simple grammatical structures. These classes are sequential and cumulative. They provide the essential foundation that all subsequent learning relies upon.
- Lateral Classes (Units 4–12): Once you complete the foundational units, the curriculum branches out into specialized modules. These topics cover areas like animals, food, fashion, storytelling, and religious/spiritual terminology. Because they are built on the same grammatical foundation, they function as lateral blocks—meaning they can be approached more flexibly or taken asynchronously if your scheduling needs change.
🔄 2. Upfront Attendance & Missed Class Policies
We highly encourage live attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays to benefit from direct instruction, oral practice, and real-time feedback. However, we recognize that "life happens"—work shifts rotate, travel occurs, or family commitments arise.
To keep you connected to the learning pipeline without friction, we have integrated a comprehensive asynchronous study option into the core of our program:
- Automatic Recordings: If you miss a live class, a high-quality video recording of the session is automatically sent to you (via push notification or email), provided your enrollment status is active for that term.
- The Digital Toolkit Integration: Archived recordings are designed to be used in tandem with our digital study companion, Ifá Scribe (E-Scribe). By using Ifá Scribe, you can review pronunciation, study tonal transcriptions, and practice dictations, allowing you to fill in the blanks and catch up fully on lateral material asynchronously.
💡 Ecosystem Best Practice
Do not rely on recordings alone to get by without practice! The digital toolkit is your study companion. When combined with session recordings, it creates a powerful self-paced ecosystem that mirrors live instruction.
💳 3. Subscription, Re-Entry, and the $5 Recorded Lesson Model
Our financial model is designed to support scalable learning while respecting student flexibility. Please note the following guidelines regarding class access, subscription status, and self-paced catch-up materials:
- Active Student Subscription: Standard monthly tuition ($75/month for the Language Foundation track) includes access to all live sessions, standard worksheets, and automatic class recordings for that month.
- Inactive Status & Re-Entry: If you discontinue your active participation in the class for a period of time and later wish to return, re-entry automatically presumes and requires that you reactivate your monthly subscriptionto gain access to current sessions and ongoing materials.
- The $5 Lesson Self-Paced Fallback: If you are inactive for a period but wish to catch up on the classes you missed without re-enrolling in live classes immediately, you can purchase the recorded classes you missed separately for $5 per recorded lesson. You can then use your active Ifá Scribe / E-Scribe subscription to study these lessons at your own pace.
📊 Price Optimization Balance
Our pricing is optimized to keep live attendance highly attractive. The combined cost of purchasing recordings separately ($5/lesson, averaging $40 for a month of 8 classes) plus an active E-Scribe subscription is equal to or slightly higher than the active live tuition of $75/month. This ensures that active live class registration remains your absolute best value, while still providing a fully viable, cost-effective self-paced fallback when your schedule requires it.
